Day by day itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania – Transfer to Arusha

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) where your guide will greet you and transfer you to Gran Melia Hotel in Arusha. Settle in, enjoy mountain views, and attend a full climb briefing.

Day 2: Acclimatization Excursion – Arusha National Park

Spend the day exploring Arusha National Park. Hike around lush forests, crater lakes, and wildlife habitats. This pre-climb excursion helps prepare your body for altitude while offering time to enjoy Tanzania’s natural beauty.

Day 3: Lemosho Gate (2,100m) to Forest Camp (2,780m)

Drive to Lemosho Gate and begin trekking through Kilimanjaro’s pristine rainforest. Spot monkeys, birds, and unique plant species as you steadily ascend to Forest Camp.

Elevation Gain: 680m / 2,230 ft
Accommodation: Forest Camp (Mti Mkubwa)

Day 4: Forest Camp (2,780m) to Shira 1 Camp (3,610m)

Leave the rainforest and trek into the open moorland zone, crossing volcanic ridges with wide views of Kilimanjaro’s slopes. Arrive at the Shira Plateau for your first breathtaking mountain panorama.

Trekking Time: 5–6 hours

Day 5: Shira 1 Camp (3,610m) to Moir Camp (3,950m)

Traverse the Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus in Africa, with sweeping views of Mount Meru and Kibo Peak. Afternoon acclimatization hike is recommended to prepare for higher elevations.

Trekking Time: 5–6 hours
Habitation: Moorland
Elevation Gain: 340m / 1,115 ft

Day 6: Moir Camp (3,950m) to Lava Tower (4,600m) to Barranco Camp (3,900m)

This is a major acclimatization day. Trek up to Lava Tower for lunch at high altitude before descending to Barranco Camp. The “climb high, sleep low” strategy is essential for your success.

Trekking Time: 6–7 hours

Elevation Gain/Loss: +650m / 2,133 ft, –700m / 2,297 ft

Day 7: Barranco Camp (3,900m) to Karanga Camp (3,930m)

Climb the famous Barranco Wall, a thrilling scramble with rewarding views. Continue across undulating terrain before reaching Karanga Camp, a key acclimatization stop before your summit push.

Trekking Time: 4–5 hours
Habitation: Alpine desert
Elevation Gain: 30m / 98 ft

Day 8: Karanga Camp (3,930m) to Barafu Camp (4,640m)

A short but steep climb through alpine desert to reach Barafu Camp, your base for the summit attempt. Prepare gear, rest, and enjoy early dinner before your midnight summit departure.

Trekking Time: 3–4 hours
Habitation: Alpine desert
Elevation Gain: 710m / 2,329 ft
Accommodation: Barafu Camp

Day 9: Barafu Camp (4,640m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Descent to Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Summit day begins at midnight with a steep climb to Stella Point and Uhuru Peak. After sunrise at the Roof of Africa, descend back to Barafu and onward to Mweka Camp.
Distance: 17 km / 11 miles
Trekking Time: 12–14 hours
Habitation: Arctic zone, then rainforest
Elevation Gain/Loss: +1,255m / 4,117 ft, –2,795m / 9,170 ft
Accommodation: Mweka Camp

Day 10: Mweka Camp (3,100m) to Mweka Gate (1,640m) – Return to Arusha

Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Celebrate your achievement, collect certificates, and transfer back to Arusha for a hot shower and well-deserved rest.

Elevation Loss: –1,460m / 4,790 ft
