Day by day itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania – Gran Melia Arusha

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport where a DKE representative will greet you. Transfer to the Gran Melia Hotel, offering luxury facilities and views of Mount Meru. Relax and recover from your journey before your climb begins.

Day 2: Acclimatization – Arusha National Park

Spend the day hiking in Arusha National Park, exploring Momela Lakes, Ngurdoto Crater, and Mount Meru forests. Spot giraffes, monkeys, and diverse birdlife. This acclimatization day prepares you for altitude. Evening briefing and climb preparation.

Day 3: Londorossi Gate (2,100m) – Morum Barrier – Shira 1 Camp (3,610m)

Drive to Londorossi Gate for registration, then to Morum Barrier. Begin trekking across moorland to Shira 1 Camp with views of Kibo Peak. This is a short acclimatization hike to ease into the trek.
Distance: ~4 km, 2–3 hours

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp (3,610m) to Moir Camp (4,200m)

Traverse the Shira Plateau through alpine vegetation and volcanic landscapes. Listen for high-altitude bird calls before entering the alpine desert. Moir Camp provides dramatic views and is perfect for acclimatization.
Distance: ~9 km, 5–6 hours

Day 5: Moir Camp (4,200m) to Pofu Camp (4,020m)

A moderate climb leads out of Moir Valley, with an optional detour to Little Lent Hill (4,450m). Continue along northern Kilimanjaro slopes with vast views across Tanzania and Kenya before reaching Pofu Camp.
Distance: ~12 km, 6–7 hours

Day 6: Pofu Camp (4,020m) to Third Cave Camp (3,870m)

Hike over Buffalo Ridge before descending gradually into Third Cave. Well-acclimatized by now, enjoy views of Mawenzi Peak. Rest and recover while taking in the high-altitude landscapes.
Distance: ~10 km, 5–6 hours
Accommodation: Camping at Third Cave Camp (VIP+ amenities)

Day 7: Third Cave (3,870m) to School Hut (4,750m)

Trek across the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, a barren but striking landscape. Arrive at School Hut for rest and summit briefing. Prepare gear and strategy for the midnight summit push.
Distance: ~15 km, 6–7 hours

Day 8: School Hut (4,750m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Summit day begins at midnight via Gilman’s Point. Reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise to breathtaking views of glaciers and plains below. Descend to Barafu, then continue to Mweka Camp for overnight.
Distance: ~16 km, 12–14 hours

Day 9: Mweka Camp (3,100m) to Mweka Gate (1,640m) – Return to Arusha

Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Gran Melia Hotel in Arusha for a hot shower, dinner, and relaxation.
